Marketer Spotlight: Themis Bezioulas

Our Marketer Spotlight series kicked off in July successfully. In this series, we provide a look into a marketer’s day to day life and learn about the path taken and lessons learned to excel in this demanding profession.

This month, we are excited to have Themis Bezioulas as a guest for our Marketer Spotlight.

Themis is the main driver behind the digital marketing success at Spitishop, where he built his career from the ground up as the Digital Marketing Administrator. Themis is known for building and sustaining effective digital marketing strategies, but also his keen interest in experimenting with new tools that may enhance the performance outcome of his campaigns. It’s no wonder the store garnered Peak and E-volution awards year over year for its advanced approach to eCommerce marketing

Spitishop is the leading online retailer in home furnishing and decor in Greece. It is founded 8 years ago on the mission to provide the highest quality products at best possible prices and fastest service to consumers. Today, Spitishop had grown into a successful brand of its own, carrying over 25,000 SKUs of linens and home goods.

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into eCommerce marketing?

Hey there! My name is Themis Bezioulas and I am the digital marketing administrator of Spitishop (www.spitishop.gr). My brother founded the business 8 years ago and I started helping him out while I was studying Maritime Economics at the University of Piraeus. Since then, I’ve rotated through pretty much every function there is, from operations to customer service and content editing. It turned out that my one true love is marketing and I’ve devoted myself to it ever since.

Which eCommerce marketing tactic do you think is most effective, and find yourself going back to?

Well, that’s a tricky question since I am a firm advocate of using every tool at your disposal, provided you know how to use it.

If I absolutely had to pick one, then I’d probably say e-mail marketing. Used wisely, e-mail marketing can turn your newsletter list to a fanbase. By using fresh, innovative and most of all, relevant content, e-mail marketing could turn out to be the most efficient way to reach your clients.

What aspect do you find most challenging in growing an eCommerce business?

Oh wow! This is tough. There are so many challenges for a growing eCommerce business but I guess if I had to pick one then I would have to say how easy it can be to get carried away and lose track. eCommerce is massive with thousands of opportunities, which may cause a starting business to want to take advantage of all of them (or many of them) at the same time. You have to know both your and your company’s limitations. New opportunities will present themselves in a year or two when you will have more experience and hands-on knowledge.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received in your career? And what advice would you give to someone just starting out in his / her career?

“You can’t excel in something you don’t love”. In order to be undeniably good at something, you have to give it your heart and soul.

In a fast-paced work environment, how do you keep track of what you have to work on?

Ha! I have 3 diaries, 2 calendars, 1 digital diary (Who doesn’t love Asana?) and countless digital spreadsheets filled with to-do lists and I still manage to lose track of some things. I’ll get back to you when I have a fool-proof way of not missing anything.

Where do you get inspirations? What are you currently reading/listening/watching?

I draw inspiration from everything. I think that’s what most people do. I always try to keep an eye out for something I could use at work no matter where I am. I believe that the best ideas are always born from a mixture of different stimuli.

Favorite apps on your mobile?

My favorite app is Peak. It’s an app that uses a variety of games to train your mind and keep it sharp. Very very entertaining.
